What is this game?
Iron Reboot is a retro sci-fi shooter where an elite Marine is trapped aboard a crashed alien ship. Death resets the run, but earned currency permanently upgrades gear — each attempt making the player stronger, smarter, and more specialised.
---
Core Idea
Instead of choosing a class, the player’s role emerges entirely from the gear they equip.
---
Core Loop
• Wake up in the crashed ship
• Explore corridors and rooms
• Fight alien enemies
• Collect credits
• Die
• Spend retained credits on upgrades
• Reboot and push further next run
---
Customisation & Progression
Player customisation is the core mechanic. The Marine can equip five slots: Helmet, Body Armour, Boots, Primary Weapon (left mouse), and Off-Hand utility. Each slot has four upgrade tiers, and every upgrade includes a meaningful benefit and a drawback — no option is strictly better. All progression comes from gear; there are no XP levels or skill trees.
---
Player Stats (All Used In-Game)
Health, Damage Reduction, Weapon Damage, Recoil, Accuracy / Spread, Magazine Size, Reload Speed, Move Speed, Jump Height, Noise (enemy detection), and Stamina.
---
Combat
Fast, readable gunplay focused on recoil control, ammo management, movement, and positioning. Enemies react to sound and visibility, rewarding smart movement as much as raw damage.
---
Death & Progression
Each run uses permadeath, but credits persist between runs. Gear upgrades are permanent, and the player selects their loadout before each attempt, creating an Edge-of-Tomorrow style loop of death, learning, and improvement.
---
Visual & Audio Style
Classic Doom-style 2D pixel sprites rendered in a 3D environment. Dark industrial sci-fi visuals with strong lighting contrast, heavy weapon sound effects, ambient ship noises, and minimal music to build tension.
---
Scope & Intent
The project is intentionally scoped to one protagonist, one primary weapon type, a single environment theme, and a limited upgrade pool to ensure completion within the jam while clearly demonstrating system depth and future expansion potential.
